COLLABORATIONS
I love collaborating. I often do so with directors, producers and performance artists, together creating new theatrical works.
THE CARTOGRAPHER'S CURSE
5 - 8 October 2016
Third Space Productions in association with the National Theatre of Parramatta and Riverside Theatres Parramatta.
One hundred years ago, red and blue crayons in hand, British diplomat Mark Sykes and French counterpart Francois Georges-Picot met over a map and set about redrawing borders in very straight lines.
The effects of the colonial carve up resonate into the present as history finds meaning in an eclectic theatrical work that traverses qanunic music, philosophy, spoken word and parkour.
Director/Writer Paula Abood, Assistant Director Claudia Chidiac, featuring Ludwig El Haddad, Ghassan Hage, Zainab Kadhim, Ali Kadhim, Alissar Gazal, Mohamd Lelo and Sara Saleh.
WHERE THE STREETS HAD A NAME
2nd September 2017
A Monkey Baa Theatre Company Production in association with Riverside Theatres Parramatta, based on the book by Randa Abdel-Fattah.
Writer/Director Eva Di Cesare | Assistant Director/Community Engagement Producer Claudia Chidiac
Hayaat is on a mission. She will even skip school to achieve it (encouraged by her best friend Samy). She is determined to retrieve a handful of soil from her Grandmother’s farm as this will make her beloved Sitti Zeynab well again. Standing between her and her goal is the impenetrable wall that encloses the West Bank.
With themes of displacement, family, freedom and friendship, this is a powerful story of one family’s response to the confinements of curfew and how they rise above, with humour and love.
Monkey Baa is beyond thrilled to be bringing this story to the stage. Eva Di Cesare – a founding Monkey and masterful creative force – has adapted Abdel-Fattah’s book into a loving, gripping and enlightening production set in Palestine but with emotional reach far beyond its borders.
